Wrestling is a great sport for kids for many reasons. It teaches you how to overcome adversity, how to achieve more than you thought yourself capable of, and how to turn a loss into a learning experience.
There is something special about the one-on-one competition. It builds character as well as physical strength. You have to take responsibility for a loss; you can't blame a teammate. Conversely, you do not need a good team to rise to the highest level; you can do that as an individual wrestler.
We are the "feeder program" for the Greensburg Salem Junior and Senior High wrestling programs. We want the kids to fall in love with wrestling and, consequently, stay with it. If they come back next year then we succeeded. If they win at this level that's just a bonus.
Competitions rarely have any team scoring at the youth level. If your kid is not ready to compete, that's OK, he or she can simply practice for the whole season without attending any competitions, and many kids do.
